A compound is a mixture of elastomers and other ingredients (in either the vulcanised or un-vulcanised state) which make a useful rubber-like material. The compounder uses one or more polymers, adds reinforcing agents, curing or vulcanizing agents, plasticizers, accelerators, retarders, anti-oxidants, anti-ozonants or anti-rads to build the sealing material. This is one of KOK's core competencies. Materials for O-Rings include:
- Nitrile (NBR, Buna N)
- Fluorocarbon (FKM)
- Fluorosilicone (FVMQ)
- Neoprene (CR)
- Plyacrylic Rubber (ACM)
- Silicone (VMQ)
- Hydrogenated Nitrile Rubber (HNBR)
- Ethylene Propylene (EPM, EPDM)
- Polyurethane (AU, EU)
- NSF Approved Material Grades
